Where can I confirm my final registration cost?
Confirm the final amount with Utah State Tax Commission, Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Its official website is linked below the calculator and in this guide’s sources.
What other limitations should I consider?
Fee amounts are Utah's calendar-2026 inflation-adjusted figures published by the Legislature's research office from Utah State Tax Commission data. They change every January 1; SB 91 adds $0.50 from January 1, 2027. Electric cars pay the $180 fee, or can enroll in UDOT's per-mile Road Usage Charge program instead. Sales and use tax applies to purchases at the local rate where the car is bought or registered; not included. A six-month registration option exists for passenger vehicles, and electric vehicles may register for 24 months. Some counties require emissions or safety inspections, which have separate costs. The air pollution control fee does not apply to electric vehicles. Not included: the $3 electronic payment fee for online renewals and the optional $0.50 search and rescue donation.
