Common questions

How are Oregon registration fees calculated?

Oregon registers passenger cars for two years, and the fee depends on the car's combined MPG rating: $126 for 0-19 MPG, $136 for 20-39 MPG, $216 for 40 MPG or more, and $376 for all-electric cars (drivers enrolled in the OReGO pay-per-mile program pay $86). A title costs $101 to $192 depending on MPG, and new plates cost $26.

Where can I confirm my final registration cost?

Confirm the final amount with Oregon Driver & Motor Vehicle Services (ODOT DMV). Its official website is linked below the calculator and in this guide’s sources.

What other limitations should I consider?

All registration and county amounts cover two years. A brand-new vehicle registered with a manufacturer's certificate of origin gets four years and pays double the registration and county fees; the calculator shows the two-year amount. Drivers enrolled in OReGO (pay per mile) pay an $86 two-year registration fee instead of $216 or $376, plus a per-mile charge. Not modeled. Starting July 1, 2027, used electric vehicles renewing pay $86 plus either a flat fee or a per-mile charge; new EVs follow on January 1, 2028, and hybrids and plug-in hybrids on July 1, 2028. Oregon has no general sales tax. A 0.5% vehicle privilege tax applies to new vehicles bought from Oregon dealers, and a use tax applies to new vehicles bought out of state; neither is included. Moving plates to another vehicle costs $30, a VIN inspection costs $9, and replacement plates cost $12 plus the plate fee.
